(Phoenix sylvestris):
This palm has low watering needs, performs best in full sunlight, and slowly grows to 40’. It is also known as the Toddy Palm or Indian Date Palm. It shares characteristics with other large date palm species but it does not sucker and it has shorter leaves. This palm matures into a durable specimen tree with blue-green pinnate leaves and attractive diamond shaped leaf scars on the trunk. It adapts to a wide variety of soil conditions but planting sites must be well drained. This palm is cold hardy to 20 degrees F.
